Xconvert Server From Panergy Offers Network Viewing Solutions for Microsoft Word and AppleWorks Documents

Apple Expo, PARIS, - September 10, 2002 -- Panergy Ltd, a leading developer of software for Macintosh since 1992, today announced Xconvert Server - a server-side application that allows networked users to view Microsoft Word or AppleWorks files without requiring installation of the individual software applications at each workstation. Panergy will be demonstrating their solution in Booth CREA-8 at Apple Expo 2002, 10-14 September, at the Paris Expo, Porte de Versailles, Paris.

Enterprises worldwide face significant challenges when sharing key information. When corporations dispatch standard documents to networked users and partners, mainly in Microsoft Word format, they often need to buy full software licenses just to view the documents. If the software is not available on a specific platform, documents need to be printed and distributed by hand. Web and print publishing companies, when attempting to access Microsoft Word and AppleWorks documents, encounter further complications due to platform or software incompatibility issues. In some cases, documents sent as email attachments need to be faxed to the recipient, the text retyped and document reformatted in order to recreate the original document.

Xconvert Server, incorporating icWord core technology, sits on a central file server and converts any incoming MS Word or AppleWorks files into viewable PDF, RTF or text formats, preserving existing page layouts, fonts and images. Installing Xconvert Server eliminates the significant IT budget required to install and support Word and AppleWorks applications on every workstation in an enterprise, simply to allow users to view selected documents.

Xconvert Server monitors incoming files on an enterprise network. Any files arriving in Microsoft® Word formats from Word 2.0 to Word XP, or AppleWorks 5 and 6, are converted into PDF format, preserving all design features and styles of the original document. This allows design-rich delivery on any platform supported by Adobe Acrobat Reader (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html). Moreover, converted files maintain original font sizes and styles; paragraph attributes - including margins, borders, alignment, spacing and numbering; tables and tabs; graphics, colors and elements such as headers, footers and footnotes. The converted file can subsequently be saved in either Adobe PDF format, text, Unicode or AppleWorks 5 / 6 format for subsequent use. By supporting these formats, Xconvert Server facilitates format-independent, enterprise multiplatform content delivery.
